Upgrade to 0.6.0

Before 0.6.0, bub covered both the application and the kernel; from 0.6.0 on, installing bub gives you the kernel only, and the application moved into the optional app dependencies. If you need the Bub application layer (configuration, plugins, hooks, skills, message channels, the gateway, and so on), add bub[app] when you install.

Upgrade guide

Pick the upgrade step for your current install:

uv

Installed with uv tool:

uv tool install --upgrade --force "bub[app]"

Virtual environment

In an activated virtual environment:

uv pip install --upgrade "bub[app]"

pyproject.toml

For a plugin or a distribution, change the dependency in pyproject.toml:

dependencies = ["bub[app]>=0.6.0"]

Verify the upgrade

Once the upgrade finishes, go to the terminal and enter bub --help, start a quick conversation, and run bub hooks to see which plugins loaded.
